鼓樂之歷史在生成初期是出於實用功能，主要用於宗教、軍事、通訊、民俗、典禮等相關之活動中，後來慢慢地因其豐富的音響與鮮明的節奏，才開始被當做是一種音樂藝術，應用於日常娛樂或民間游藝的歌舞音樂中；《詩經》、《史記》等曾以夔鼓鏜鏜、鼉鼓逢逢、鼓淵淵、法鼓冬冬、坎、鼚、鼛等十數種鼓聲的象聲詞來形容鼓之音色，由此知道鼓樂在千年前即是一種家喻戶曉的藝術音樂。
The initial history of drum music is for practical utility. It is mainly used on religion, military, communication, folklore, ceremony, and some other relative activities. Later, it is treated a kind of music art because of its abounding sounds and blazing temple, and applied in dance music of normal life entertainment and folk game. The Book of Songs and Shiji ever described the sound of drums by onomatopoeias of tang, fong, yuans, dong, and kan. We can know drum music is a kind of famous art music since thousands years ago.
有鑑於台灣鼓樂不管在曲風或鼓術上大多承襲於中國，所以十鼓擊樂團於成立之始，就不斷地以台灣為主題創新曲風、創作新鼓術，融合體能訓練於鼓術中，推動台灣青少年鼓藝教育；在這幾年的推廣過程裡，得到台南市府及各界的支持，曾代表台南市參加雪梨奧運開幕表演及韓國世足賽開幕巡迴表演等。
Respecting most styles or skills of Taiwan drum music are followed from China, so at the beginning of Ten Drum founded, they always create new style and skills by the theme of Taiwan, and combine physical training in drum skills to push drum skill education of Taiwan teenagers. In the process of popularizing these years, we get many supports from Tainan city government and every section. We have represented Tainan city to participate the opening of Sydney Olympic Games and Korea World Cup.
2002年更在台南市政府的輔導下，十鼓擊樂團之「鼓藝嘉年華會」加入「台南七夕藝術節」，融合協辦為「府城七夕國際藝術節」，首次推動了國內、外鼓藝交流，且帶動起鼓樂藝術的流行。
In 2002, we bring our drum carnival into Tainan Chi Shi Arts Festival to become
Tainan International Chi Shi Arts Festival. This is the first time to put drum skills from Taiwan and abroad into action and promote the fashion of drum arts.
今鼓樂藝術已經成為台南古城代表之一，為推展台南鼓藝於全台，除將國際鼓藝團隊帶進台南外，更要使台南“鼓”城藝術鼓震八方、名威四海。期望藉由舉辦《台灣國際鼓樂節》大型活動，將預計吸引國內外觀光客共襄盛舉，不僅提昇國人文化藝術涵養，更促進國際間文化交流，進而推動觀光事業蓬勃發展。
Drum arts have become one of the representatives of Tainan. For spreading drum skills of Tainan to whole Taiwan, we not only invite international drum groups to Tainan but also make drum skills of Tainan become famous in the world. By holding Taiwan International Drum Arts Festival, hope we can attract tourists from Taiwan and abroad to join it. It not only advances Taiwanese cultivation of culture art but also promotes the development of tourism.
